The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) fell 0.3% in February following a 0.3% decline in January. February saw the eleventh consecutive monthly decline in the index. During the six-month period from August 2022 through February 2023, the LEI declined 3.6% versus a 3.0% decline in the prior six-month period. Eight of the ten LEI indicators were either negative or flat. Stock prices and residential building permits were the two positive components.

The Coincident Economic Index (CEI) increased 0.1% in February following a 0.2% increase in January. The CEI is up 0.6% over the prior six-month period. That is slightly lower than the 0.7% increase during the prior six-month period. Three of the four CEI components improved in February while industrial production was flat.
